The generation of human that is currently living and developing are undeniably the future of technology and what that entails. I believe that now more than ever before; there is a need for good leadership inherent in the upper echelons of techno giants.
I’ve always been a staunch supporter of no regulation in the area of Artificial Intelligence and I still am, plus I believe that I always will be unless something drastically changes in the near future that I could not have anticipated. Time will tell.
Development of Artificial Intelligence is a fact and an irreversible one at that. Never the less, we do need to keep an eye on the bad actors that are no doubt using their mediocre understanding of the ramifications of their immoral acts and what those actions will undoubtedly lead to. Not because it won’t be noticed by many – if not most of all humanity but because it is being done currently in a ” marketing manner ” – for lack of a better term. It really is a sick thing to see occurring right before our very eyes. It’s not even that AI is being utilized and will no doubt be used as the perfect scapegoat – a glitch no doubt – to explain away any and all accounting of it’s damage to human life.
Please understand one or two things about all of the current moment. Artificial Intelligence is a program and it is run on a machine that operates on a binary code and any switch that exists may only be off and on. Now, just think of it as an abacus that you can write into as well and then you can create algorithms to get you a desired result. The possibilities are endless of course. But the important thing or part here is the “desired result” and please remember this any time you hear someone say it was a human programming error. Because when this happens, not if – it will be treated as something that could not have been helped almost as if it were an act of God – under the law.
But in fact it will be an act of man. I promise you that when it comes to machinery, toys and products that come in contact with people from anywhere in the world, the care taken by governments to guarantee safety in the products offered by a company under their auspices is a big one. Why then, is software treated differently? If you write software that ends up “by mistake” stealing millions over the course of a year ( let’s say ) hidden fees – if you will. Why is it nobody is held accountable for implementing such a program in the first place – from the person that wrote the code to the person that directed them to do exactly what was in it?
Further explanation: Just to write as many of you non-techies have probably seen somewhere the famous “hello world” that is the beginning code written for almost any programming language it is a well known and established initiation that most and all programmers have experienced.
To write those words, you have to be very specific. Now, I grant you it is possible that someone could mistakenly write an algorithm in error ( negative instead of positive and vice versa ) and yes, would be an accident and an innocent mistake. So how is a program implemented and not checked, double checked and checked once more for errors before it’s run?! Every function in a program should be tested.
Ultimately it is one of 3 things:
- Negligence – lazy code or Bad code .
- Fraud – outright theft of something.
- Stupidity – either the programmer or the designer of the program don’t know what they are doing.
All levity aside, the number of issues is irrelevant – the important thing to remember is that if the numbers don’t add up in the end. Then they probably didn’t add up in the beginning either.
